I’m Jovy, a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, cook and foodie. I learnt to cook with French techniques when I studied Professional Culinary Arts at the International Culinary Centre in New York City. On top of my studies, I was working in a test kitchen and a bakery, testing recipes for a meal kit company and baking cookies all day long. I was happy to be fully immersed in my craft, but slowly started to feel chronic fatigue with digestive health issues on the daily. My constant battle with my health led me to change my relationship with food, and influenced me to deepen my knowledge of nutrition by getting certified through the Nutritional Therapy Association. More than ever, now is the time to get back to basics, tune in and listen to our bodies. Combining my knowledge from both my training in culinary and nutritional therapy, I started Sigla with a mission to make healthy living more approachable and fun by choosing how we fuel our bodies — and it all starts with our food!
I’m Aliya, a private chef, consultant, and insatiable explorer. After a few years of doing high-volume catering, and managing cafeterias and quick service stalls, I decided to study again and take up culinary arts at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena. It was at culinary school that I developed a better connection with flavors and techniques, and a deeper respect for the people that prepare and grow our food. My exposure to cut-throat Michelin-starred kitchens in California not only taught me how much thought, care and precision go into each dish; it also taught me the joy of eating, cooking and highlighting produce and products that come from strengthened relationships with local farmers and purveyors. When I came back to the Philippines, I began my lifelong quest to find the best, most interesting food and ingredients our land and waters have to offer. I’m happy to be able to share my discoveries and experiences with everyone through cooking and through Sigla.
I’m Alexe, I am a graphic artist and part of the creative forces behind Sigla. When it comes to food and health trends, I am there first! I do the research for our features, but I also love to experiment on my own. I am a cat-loving, plant-based eater who is always trying to make a conscious effort to live healthier. Through this way of life, I’ve found inner peace and happiness, and I hope you will find just the same through Sigla.
